چکیده

The utilization of L-serine-2,3-deuterio, 3-C4, N16 and glycine-2-C4, N15 for the biosynthesis of purines, thymine, and choline in the rat was described briefly in preliminary publications from this laboratory (1, 2). In the synthesis of the methyl groups of choline from the p-C14DaOH group of isotopically labeled serine it was later found (3) that t,he C14:D ratio was unaltered, indicating that carbon-hydrogen bonds were not broken. In order to gain a better understanding of the reactions involved in these conversions a more careful investigation was carried out, in the same animals, of the interrelationships in the metabolism of glycine and serine.

The Prognostic Value of Serine and Glycine Levels in Plasma in Patients with Esophageal Cancer: A Case Control Study

Background and Objective: Serine and glycine are connecting lines for biosynthesis and are essential resources for synthesis of proteins, nucleic acids and lipids that are necessary for cancer cell growth. The purpose of this study was to set a comparison of serine and glycine in patients with esophageal cancer and in healthy people. Materials and Methods: 37 plasma samples were collected from...

Certain aspects of glycine and histidine metabolism in patients with sprue.

IT HAS BEEN BELIEVED that tropical sprue is caused by a primary folic acid deficiency,’2 although direct evidence in support of this concept is inadequate. While the administration of folic acid to patients with sprue in relapse will lead to clinical improvement, the remissions are often incomplete and malabsorption persists. Sprue may be conspicuously absent in the presence of gross vitamin an...

بررسی پروفایل اسیدهای آمینه‌ی سرم در نفروپاتی دیابتی

Background: Diabetic nephropathy is a chronic kidney disease and of more common complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The current diagnostic markers of diabetic nephropathy, albumin and creatinine, are only able to catch the disease in the stage of renal damage. The aim of this study is evaluation of targeted metabolomics of serum amino acids to identify the association of the changes of s...

Some interrelationships of amino acids in the nutrition of Leuconostoc mesenteroides.

In 1939 Gladstone clearly demonstrated the phenomenon of amino acid antagonism and showed its relationship to the nutrition of the pathogen Bacillus anthracis. Among the interrelationships involving specific amino acids was the ability of threonine to remove the toxic effects of serine and vice versa. Snell and Guirard (1943) noted the inhibition of growth of Streptococcus lactis by glycine, se...

Oral Administration of L-serine Modifies Amino Acid Metabolism in the Brain of Rats

Objective: Whether orally administered L-serine influences amino acid metabolism in the brain was investigated. Methods: L-Serine (6 mmol/10 ml/kg) was orally administered to rats after a 9 hr fast and plasma and brain samples were obtained at 30, 60 and 120 min in Experiment 1. In Experiment 2, the effect of L-serine and glycine on brain amino acid metabolism was compared. Results: In Experime...
